music monday | favourite the 1975 songs

For everyone unaware of the fact, The Ballad of Me and My Brain was my top song of 2017 and one of my most played albums of 2018 was A Brief Inquiry. I absolutely ADORE The 1975, so much so that I’m seeing them on the 19th of January!

I figured the best way to celebrate going to see them is to make a blog post of some of my favourite songs by The 1975, old and new!

[if you’ve spent .2 seconds in the replies section of a Matt Healy tweet: this is the song everyone’s asking him to play. i’m interested in how religion is treated in music, especially pop/rock, so this is one of my all time favourites]

It’s likely in a Sainsbury’s
Flirting with the girls and waiting for me

[i don’t know what it is about this song that makes it so, but it’s my #1]

 

• Loving Someone

Just keep holding their necks and keep selling them sex

It’s better if we make them want the opposite sex

 

• Paris

I said, “Hey kids, we’re all just the same
What a shame”

[this is my roommate’s favourite 1975 song]

 

• Love It If We Made It

We’re fucking in a car, shooting heroin
Saying controversial things just for the hell of it

[honestly, this and loving someone feel like the most charged songs they’ve done to me, and it breaks my heart]

 

• Give Yourself a Try

And you’ll make a lot of money, and it’s funny
‘Cause you’ll move somewhere sunny and get addicted to drugs
And spend obscene amounts on fucking seeds and beans online

 

• It’s Not Living [If It’s Not With You]

Distract my brain from the terrible news
It’s not living if it’s not with you

[a lot of the 1975 songs are about matt healy’s drug addiction]

 

• I Always Wanna Die [Sometimes]

But your death it won’t happen to you
It happens to your family and your friends
