2019 | february wrap up & march tbr jar pick

Another month, another wrap up!

I got a lot of reading done in the first two weeks in the month as I had to take some time off from Uni for mental health reasons. It was a rough time, and the only things I could bring myself to do was read and blog. I felt bad not doing Uni work, but if I hadn’t taken that time, I would have pushed myself too far and been even worse than I already was.

READING WRAP UP

  • The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare [3.75 stars; Tessa Dare’s Girl Meets Duke series is by far my favourite of hers, really enjoyed this first book! Such quick reads]
  • The Governess Game by Tessa Dare [3.25 stars; not as good as The Duchess Deal, but still enjoyed it for the astronomy elements and the banter!]
  • A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay [4 stars; this was scary at the start and just grew more and more sad as we got closer to the end and realised what was, realistically, happening]
  • A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro [5 stars; Charlotte Holmes is my girlfriend and this is my new favourite series]

  • Oroonoko by Aphra Behn [1 star; not good, my university is ruining me with our reading]
  • Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: The Novelization by A.C.H Smith [2.5 stars; it was okay, but not amazing; if you’re as familiar with the film as me, you could probably skip this]
  • Fence #12 by C.S. Pacat [3 stars; not the best finale, but I was super happy with the conclusion, and I love this cast. It feels like the art has grown progressively more jokey and juvenile as the series has gone on, which annoys me]
  • Heartstopper Volume 1 by Alice Oseman [5 stars, I would die for Charlie Spring to be happy]

  • Say Yes to the Marquess by Tessa Dare [3 stars; not my favourite Tessa Dare, although I did still enjoy the romance and the boxing/bulldog elements]
  • Lazaretto by Clay McLeod Chapman [4.5 stars; a truly horrifying comic about a flesh eating virus that breaks out on a college campus during the first week of school, not for the faint of heart. I genuinely wanted to throw up after finishing, but I loved it?]
  • Super Sons Volume 1 by Peter J Tomasi [4 stars; I love my super sons! My boys!]
  • Giant Days Volume 8 by John Allison [4 stars; I was so upset after finishing this I cried and then couldn’t sleep]

  • When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare [3 stars; okay, not my favourite Tessa Dare, but it did what it came here to do]
  • Snotgirl Volume 1 by Bryan Lee O’Malley [3 stars; this was….. strange? But I enjoyed it?]
  • My Love Story Volume 4 by Kazune Kawahara [4 stars; love this series!]
  • Fullmetal Alchemist Volume 7 by Hiromu Arakawa [5 stars]

  • Fence Volume 1 by C.S. Pacat [4 stars]
  • Jonesy Volume 2 by Sam Humphries [3.5 stars]
  • Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett [3.25 stars]
  • Jonesy Volume 3 by Sam Humphries [3.75 stars]

  • In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan [5 stars; I absolutely love this, and have a review planned for March!]
  • Pandora’s Legacy by Kara Leopard [2 stars; if the pacing and character development were better, this would have been amazing with the art and the mythology elements]
  • My Love Story!! Volume 5 by Kazune Kawahara [4 stars!]
  • The Moomins and the Great Flood by Tove Jansson [3 stars; I’m planning on watching the new Moomins series and really want to watch the old anime, so I thought I’d give this a read]

And my TBR JAR PICK FOR MARCH IS…… THE SILENT COMPANIONS BY LAURA PURCELL!!!!!

ESSAYS/ARTICLES I READ THIS MONTH

  • Deceptions by Ian Parker of The New Yorker: this article is about Dan Mallory, and it’s actually wild
  • Pull A Pig Dating Prank by Stephanie Yeboah: this is a heartbreaking article
  • Matty Healy GQ Interview by Anna Conrad: I adore Matty Healy, he’s so articulate and down to earth so every interview he does is incredible

TV SHOWS/MOVIES/VIDEOS I ENJOYED

  • I really enjoyed rewatching HOLES for the first time in years, and actually understanding a lot more of the humour and foreshadowing than before! Holes is the ultimate flawless movie I cannot be challenged on the truth
  • THE 1975 PERFORMED MY FAVOURITE SONG AT THE BRITS
  • I’ve been watching The Umbrella Academy on Netflix and it’s GREAT
  • WhittyNovels and HER CATSSSSSS [if you like reading vlogs, please watch Whitney!]
