#UnsolvedAThon is a read-a-thon being run by Laura at thebookcorps from April 1st to April 30th. It’s based off the YouTube series Buzzfeed Unsolved, where Ryan Bergara talks to his friend Shane Madej about unsolved supernatural or true crime cases. You can find the announcement and sign up here!
I am… so excited for this read-a-thon. I actually yelled, in bed, at 8am, when I saw this was a thing. The graphics for the read-a-thon are also so so good, and you can tell all the time that has gone into the planning of it. I’m so excited to be taking part!
I’ll have a Goodreads shelf of the books I plan on reading, and I’m hoping to start a Twitter thread of my progress throughout!
As a massive conspiracy theorist and believer in the supernatural, I of course will be taking the path of the Ryan avatar for this read-a-thon.
Ryan’s Path
The Search for the Mysterious Mothman: Read a book about a mythical creature or a monster.
Fellas, Mothman is both my favourite cryptid and my boyfriend, so this being the first prompt? LOSING it! I decided to go with Rumple Buttercup by Matthew Gray Gubler for this prompt. However, due to this not arriving until the 2nd of April, I’m also adding The Tropic of Serpents by Marie Brennan. I’m halfway through it, so that and Rumple Buttercup will make me feel better! RB is about a little monster and self esteem, and Serpents is a sequel about dragons!
The Chilling Mystery of the Black Dahlia: Read a very well-known/famous book.
I am going with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It’s finally on Scribd as a book instead of an audiobook and I’m so excited for it!
The Murders that Haunt the Lizzie Borden House: Read a book with an anti-hero or villain as the main character.
Fullmetal Alchemist Volume 8 by Hiromu Arakawa is my choice. Greed is one of my all time favourite anti-hero characters: he’s deeply unlikable for many reasons, yet I adore him. I’m so glad he’s got a bigger role in the next few chapters!
The Grisly Murders of Jack the Ripper: Read a book about a serial killer or a murderer.
For this, I have two options: I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara or Tokyo Ghoul Volume 5 by Sui Ishida. I’m picking two as I have to be in a very specific mood for nonfiction, and I’d rather have the option of a quicker read if I need it!
Roswell’s Bizarre UFO Crash: Read a book involving aliens or outer space.
I have picked When the Sky Fell on Splendor by Emily Henry, a new release arriving at mine between April 6th and April 10th! This is one of my most anticipated releases of the year, about a group of friends who I assume discover an alien spaceship that crash lands in the woods.
The Enigmatic Death of the Isdal Woman: Read a book involving spies or espionage.
At first I was going to use the Corrupt Cop card for this, but I realised: The Case For Jamie by Brittany Cavallaro is perfect. I’m just about finished with The Last of August, and I’ll definitely have it finished in time for this prompt.
The Haunting of Hannah Williams: Read a book involving ghosts or spirits.
I am going for The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell. I meant to read this for my TBR jar pick in March, but better late than never, I always say! This is a gothic story featuring spirits and some very spooky dolls.
The Historic Disappearance of Louis Le Prince: Read an unknown book or a book that has less than 500 ratings on Goodreads.
For this, I have chosen Why Photographers Commit Suicide by Mary McCray. It’s a poetry collection that is featured in an upcoming Top Ten Tuesday post. It only has 9 ratings on Goodreads!
The Haunted Town of Tombstone: Read a book about an outlaw/a group of outlaws.
My Hero Academia Vigilantes Volume 3 by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court is my choice for this one. It’s set before the events of the My Hero Academia series and is about a group of vigilantes working outside the law to protect citizens. Obviously they need a license to do that, so I thought this would work for the outlaw prompt!
The Odd Vanishing of Amelia Earhart: Read a book with a female main character
I have picked The Bigfoot Files by Lindsay Eagar! Not only is there a female main character, it’s about an iconic cryptid and the MC’s mum is a cryptozoologist!

I always love finding more FMA and Greed fans! I can’t help myself it’s one of my favourite series, I bring it up whenever I can. I ended up reading a book other than Evelyn Hugo because i couldn’t find a copy for this readathon but I’m trying my hardest to get a hold of it!

I LOVE the series so much, too! It’s really great, like really really great. I’ve watched it twice now through. (The FMA: Brotherhood version.) And I still love it just as much. I’m probably going to binge-watch the whole series again in July. #GreedFanSquad

It’s some of the best story-telling across a several year time span because it’s done so gradually! You don’t even realise the growth until characters reunite and realise how much they’ve changed. #GreedFanSquad
