Music Monday: Playlist Book Tag #2

This tag was created on Booktube by Little Red Reader, all you have to do is put your playlist on shuffle and find a book to go along with the song that plays.

I did this tag previously, and decided to just do it again. I think it’s really fun and it gives me a look at songs I may not have listened to for quite a while!

1] DEAD by My Chemical Romance

I’m going for Glass Houses by Rachel Caine, ’cause this is 100% a Shane Collins song and him and Eve both dig ironic songs about death. My Chemical Romance and most songs I grew up listening to on Kerrang! remind me of Morganville Vampires, thanks to the playlists Rachel Caine always included in the back of the later books!

2] Smile Like You Mean It by The Killers

I’m gonna sound like a basic bitch but… this really reminds me of Holden Caulfield in The Catcher in the Rye. He’s a character who has a really cynical and bittersweet approach to life, and he’s just still a very sad character to me, putting on a face for everyone else.

3] Spring Day by BTS

A melancholy K-Pop song? My brand. Half the K-Pop I listen to is sad as fuck. Also, this is 100% Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl, and I feel sad just thinking about it. It’s mostly for Bee and how she ends up by the end of the novel, my heart is breaking. The video also has a super pretty and- repeating, cause I don’t have a better word- melancholy feeling to it.

4] Soft Skeletons by Anberlin

Why are all these songs so sad! I’m very sorry, everyone, this whole post is so on brand. Although I have yet to finish this book, I’m going This Is Not a Test by Courtney Summers. It’s a very sad, intense read, and the main character just… makes me feel sad.

5] Antichrist by The 1975

Literally so many of these songs that have played are in my playlist for the main couple/character in my main WIP, it hurts. I know that there’s not really any scepticism or anything towards religion in this book, but I’m going I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman. The 1975 always remind me of The Ark.

6] All Too Well by Taylor Swift

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. It literally builds around the relationship between these characters after breaking up, and coming back together in the face of a massive disaster/conspiracy. All Too Well also just reminds me of how sad this series can get at times.

7] Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore/Ryan Lewis

Big Six Of Crows/Crooked Kingdom energy, to be honest. I can’t even tell you why. If you think Wylan Van Eck wouldn’t love this song and play it on repeat, don’t talk to me, he’s embarrassing and he owns that as the baby of the group!

8] Ísjaki by Sigur Rós

I forgot how much I love Sigur Rós hoooly shit. His music is so beautiful. Also, my default for his music is always The Raven Boys just for how other-worldly and eerie his music can get. This specific song has Noah Czerny vibes. Don’t ask me why.

9] Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash

Resisting the urge to just scream STRANGER THINGS/TONY STARK is real. So…. In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan. This is an Elliot song. That boy is a bisexual mess who dated a boy in a band, he definitely loves this song.

10] EGO by Ella Eyre/Ty Dolla $ign

This is one of my favourite Jason Todd songs for so many reasons, mostly because he would just…. hate the ego of all his brothers and family, i.e. Bruce. Ignoring the relationship part of the lyrics, it’s just such a Jason Todd song.

11] Save Me by BTS

WOW two BTS songs! I love the instrumentals in this, the drop goes hard. I don’t know why my brain went there, but A Study In Charlotte. Specifically Jamie @ Charlotte? Save my brain please I don’t know why I played this association game I can’t even explain why my mind jumps to these places.

12] Wolves by One Direction

THIS IS UNDISPUTED ONE OF THE BEST ONE DIRECTION SONGS. Also, Fables by Bill Willingham. One of the best Snow/Bigby songs. Also, I think it’s funny finding songs about wolves and just immediately applying them to Bigby, who would hate that shit IRL.

13] While My Guitar Gently Weeps by Regina Spektor

If you’ve heard this song, it’s because it’s from the Kubo and the Two Strings film, and it’s also apparently a cover of a Beatles song? I think I’ll go for Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. It really does remind me of Edward Elric.

14] Number One by Tove Stryke

My #1 Oikawa Tooru song, fellas! He’s a character in Haikyuu, a manga written by Haruichi Furudate. I actually have a whole Oikawa playlist just because I love him so much, I have absolutely no shame in my love for him. He’s a very driven character who wants to come out on top, constantly, so Number One always reminds me of him. My other top songs for him are Growl by Exo and Neon by Casey Lee Williams!

15] Heavy Soul by You Me At A Six

It’s a repeat! I’m sorry! But A Study in CharlotteI’ve got a feeling//I’ve got a feeling//Nobody knows that you’ve got a heavy soul’ is such a THEM line wow. Also not to expose my emo past, but Night People is 100% You Me at Six’s best album, it’s the most consistent and pleasing tonally, and I think it’s got some of their best songs ever.

16] So Good by Louisa Johnson

This is an Evie O’Neill, specifically in Lair of Dreams when she’s out getting drunk most nights, including the climax of the novel, where she throws up and then goes out to help save the day. I adore her.

17] Unforgettable by French Montana/Swae Lee

Off track, this always reminds me of first year of University. This is a book I’m referencing from my first Playlist post: The DUFF by Kody Keplinger. I just really associate this song with being a teenager, dance floors, being around boys who are hot but also giant assholes- things that also remind me of The DUFF.

18] I Know I’m a Wolf by Young Heretics

A creepy as fuck song one of my besties, Kat, says reminds her of me. I don’t know what vibes I give off. This one is for Grubbs Grady and a majority of the characters in the Demonata series! I actively feel uncomfortable listening to this song, yet I still love it with all my heart.

 19] Hard Times by Paramore

Solitaire by Alice Oseman. Didn’t even hesitate. This is like a mad mashup of Tori and Michael Holden vibes, it’s not even funny. If their friendship had a song, it would be this one; Stay by Rihanna would be their relationship song, and I refuse to explain myself. [Funny you’re the broken one//But I’m the only one who needed saving]

20] A World Alone by Lorde

Oooo, a tune! I can’t stop myself: Neverworld Wake. It’s their song, guys, okay! I have a lot of emotions, mostly about Bee/Martha which SHOULD HAPPEN OKAY, and yeah. My heart can’t take it.

And that’s it! What books would you pick for the songs? I’d love to see others do this, it’s such a fun tag!

Thank you for reading!
